Termites are beneficial insects in nature. They breakdown cellulose, and in the process of the breakdown they return nutrients to the soil. Each year, however, when they infest structures termites do more damage than fires, storms and earthquakes combined.

The most common termites found in Missouri, the subterranean termites, build their nests in the ground. These termites construct mud tubes which are used to explore for food and connect their underground nest to that food source.

Termites building their tubes can enter buildings through cracks, expansion joints and plumbing. They can find their way into a structure through an opening as small as 1/32 of an inch.

Any building, whether constructed with slab, basement or crawl space foundations can be a target for termite infestation.

Inspecting

A thorough inspection by a Certified Wingate Environmental Inspector is the first and most important step in protecting your property. Whether you call us to perform one of the several hundred real estate inspections we perform annually or just want an annual inspection for your current home our experience helps us locate the specific areas in your structure where termite attacks are likely to occur. We will point out areas that are conducive to termite activity and give advice on what you can do to help protect your home from termite attack. Termite treatments are expensive so we want to do everything we can to help you avoid that expense. In an infestation is found we will implement a treatment plan for your structure that will eliminate any current infestation and prevent any further termite attacks.

Prevention

While we recommend an annual inspection as the first line of defense against termites, we know many of our customers want their home protected from all pests, including termites. Termidor

Termidor is an odorless, low-dose, non-repellent termiticide. Because termites do not know the termiticide is there they move through it freely, thus allowing 100% effective results. Termidor is lethal by contact for the termite. Because termites are social insects they feed each other primarily by passing food from mouth to mouth and contact each other as they forage for food. Thus, every termite that comes in contact with Termidor becomes a carrier, contacting and infecting others. Our Termidor & Altriset Treatments are a One-Time Application

Once we perform your Termidor treatment you won't even know we were present. The treatment usually will take a couple to a few hours to perform, depending on the structure size, and the treatment procedures are complete. The only thing we will need to do for at least the next 10-years is perform an annual inspection on the structure to insure no new activity has occurred. The Termidor treatment is the number one treatment method used in the United States.

It is absolutely false for any company to state or infer that barrier treatments always include drilling holes along the interior walls, uprooting the exterior landscaping, pulling carpets, destroying tile or causing structural damage. It is true that minimal interior drilling is sometimes necessary to provide complete protection against termite re-infestation, however, if a company is reputable and professional the treatment will not be intrusive or disruptive.

Getting Estimates

Be aware of companies who want to treat your home as soon as they hand you an estimate. Many companies, especially companies who promote the Sentricon Product, are in a race to get as many units in the ground as possible, as fast as they can. The more they sell, the lower the rates are they have to pay Dow Chemical. If you have swarmers, or termites on your home, installing bait system can take up to two years to eliminate the whole infestation without local liquid treatments, so waiting a few day to make a wise decision on your treatment, will not cause your home anymore harm.
